Book Review

Cows are Vegetarians
by Ann Bradley
Review by Jennifer Santoyo

Cows are VegetariansIf you know a child who is a new vegetarian, or has been one since birth, this is a great book for young people. It is very straightforward about the different reasons to be vegetarian, and also offers support to children who may not be surrounded by understanding people.

Cows Are Vegetarians explains the difference between vegetarian and vegan. The book mainly touches on the environmental effects of meat production as well as the health aspects of vegetarianism. There are also a few quotes by well-known vegetarians throughout the book. The book is filled with illustrations, although not in color. Cows are Vegetarians would probably hold the interest of a child over five years old. It is a quick read, but it gets the point across without going into too much detail.

No, the book does not discuss the fact that cows are vegetarians, as the title may indicate. However, it does help children come up with answers to the questions they are often asked about why they are vegetarian. Cows Are Vegetarians is a great addition to any young vegetarian's collection.
