Book ReviewHaving a Baby Naturallyby Peggy O'Mara Review by Jennifer Santoyo Having a baby is supposed to be a loving and peaceful time in a woman's life. However, these days many women are everything but peaceful when it comes down to giving birth in a typical hospital. Having a Baby Naturally changes everything. This book is a must-have for any healthy, hopeful pregnant woman who dreams of a natural birth without unnecessary medical intervention. Article continues below The chapters on monthly fetal development include pictures of how your baby looks at any given time in your pregnancy. They also offer suggestions for stress relief and relaxation techniques. Unlike many other pregnancy information books, Having a Baby Naturally provides quite a different perspective of childbirth. Gone (almost) are the days when women only had one choice -- hospital birth. Women are now more supported in the various choices available. There are sections on medications administered during childbirth as well as preparing for home birth or birth in a private birthing center. The tone of this book is one that suggests serenity and happiness during the pregnancy, and the birthing experience as vital emotions. O'Mara emphasizes the importance of women having multiple choices in all aspects of these experiences, and being able to make such decisions without fear of guilt or judgment from others. Topics range from preparing for a midwife or a doula, to postpartum and working after birth. There is a chapter dedicated to fathers and also a list of resources for finding organizations and individuals who support the natural birthing process. This is the perfect book for any woman desiring a natural birthing experience. |
