Book ReviewMiserly Momsby Jonni McCoy Review by Erin Pavlina Boy is this ever a timely book! With the economy the way it is, I would imagine most families could use some advice about how to save money. Although the book is geared towards families where one person works and the other does not, you will find that the information is just as useful in families with two incomes.
Article continues below I decided, just for fun, to put some of her ideas into practice in our own household. Specifically in the area of groceries. First I discovered that we were eating too many meals out, which is very costly. I made a committment to cooking dinner for my husband and toddler every night of the week. I had a lot of fun, my husband enjoyed my meals, we ate together at the table instead of in front of the television, and I saved us approximately $120 that week alone! Second, instead of buying pre-made desserts from the grocery store, I baked oatmeal raisin cookies and peanut butter crispy treats for the week. The cost for those two desserts was under $5.00. Typically, we were spending closer to $30 a week on desserts for the family. I highly recommend this book. It's easy and fast to read, and you will come away from it energized with ways to save money. And just think what you can do with the money you save... pay down some debt, donate the money to your favorite charity, take the kids on a special outing, or go out for a romantic evening with your spouse. |
