Book ReviewMonsters Don't Eat Broccoliby Barbara Jean Hicks, illustrated by Sue HendraReview by Cathe Olson ![]() Monsters don't eat broccoli? No way! They prefer tractors, rocket ships, and "wheely, steely stew" . . . but "fum, foe, fie, fee, monsters don't eat broccoli!" However, much to their surprise . . . the "crunchy, munchy trees" they so adore are actually... you guessed it... broccoli! I'm always thrilled to find a book that encourages kids to eat healthy foods in a fun, non-preachy way. This rollicking new hardcover picture book is packed with bright, colorful (not scary) monsters in a variety of locations from trailer parks to outer space. The sing-song rhythm and rhyme of Hicks' clever text will have children chanting along to every "fum, foe, fie, fee." Monsters Don't Eat Broccoli is great choice for younger children (2-7 years old) and an excellent choice for schools and preschools that want to promote healthier eating habits. I will add the caveat for VegFamily readers that this book has a nonvegetarian page where the monsters eat "fish and ships." Buy a copy of Monsters Don't Eat Broccoli now! |
