Book ReviewRaising Vegetarian Childrenby Joanne Stepaniak, M.S.ED., and Vesanto Melina, M.S., R.D. Review by Jennifer Santoyo After skipping around to what I found most interesting, (I skipped around a lot!) I finally gave this book a good reading from beginning to end. Not only was Raising Vegetarian Children interesting, it thoroughly covered its subject with everything from descriptions of vitamins and their role in children’s health to eating disorders, family food issues and plenty of recipes. Article continues below I couldn’t pass up the peanut-butter-based African Stew recipe. One bowl was filling enough… but even leftovers tasted great with bread! Another favorite was the Strawberry Popsoycles. The recipe calls for maple syrup, which made me skeptical, but they turned out amazingly tasty. The authors also include weight charts for children and an extensive resource listing in the back of the book, including websites, catalogs and organizations. Raising Vegetarian Children is a wonderful assemblage of facts, advice, ideas, and recipes. |
