As Project Director of the first major research project between China and the United States, Dr. T. Colin Campbell has written a ground breaking book that clearly dispels common misconceptions about what we are eating, and what it is doing to our bodies.

Dr. Campbell’s studies have shown that proteins are culprits that trigger the growth of cancerous tumors. Fearing that all proteins were suspect, he studied equivalent levels of animal and plant proteins. His findings were remarkable, discovering that plant proteins are non-reactive in cancer development and tumor growth. Furthermore, he distinguished a definite and consistent pattern with nutrients. Nutrients from animal based foods always increased tumor development, while nutrients from plant based foods always decreased tumor development.

The majority of Americans eat an omnivorous diet. In America, 15-16% of the omnivorous diet comes from protein and upwards of 80% of that amount comes from animal based foods.

Reading the China Study, we can gain the basic understandings of how nutrition affects the body in occurrences of heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol, common cancers, bone deterioration, and many other health aspects.

Through The China Study Dr. Campbell explains the foundation of a plant based diet and how to transition into that dietary lifestyle. He clarifies scientific findings on the benefit of eating plants exclusively. His hope for the future is that the world will be ready to change, bad eating habits will be broken, and gaining acceptance by society we can change the future of our health and quality of life through a varied and balanced plant based diet.

This book is a must read for vegans seeking scientific sources to defend their food choices, and a must read for omnivores seeking health and longevity.
