VegFamily NewsProtect the Planet and Animals on "Tofurky Tuesdays"TofurkyŽ, one of the most popular meat alternatives, and The Humane Society of the United States are teaming up on a new project. They're promoting "Tofurky Tuesdays" as a fun way to reduce our impact on global warming, while enjoying delicious humane foods. The HSUS is encouraging its members and supporters to forego meat in favor of meat alternatives such as Tofurky products on Tuesdays as a way to help animals, the environment, and their health. "Consumers can look forward to Tuesdays as great opportunities," said Paul Shapiro, senior director of The HSUS' factory farming campaign. "By reducing the amount of animal products we consume, we help fight global warming and reduce the suffering of farm animals." Article continues below Seth Tibbott, CEO of Oregon-based Turtle Island Foods, the maker of Tofurky brand products, said, "We're proud to be working with The Humane Society of the United States to tackle global warming. The United Nations has pointed out that animal agriculture is a greater global warming culprit than automobiles. Savoring meat-free meals each Tuesday is a great way to prevent the inhumane treatment of animals and protect the planet." The HSUS has licensed the use of its logo on Turtle Island Food's full line of all-vegetarian products roasts, franks, sausages, tempeh burgers, jerky and more. TofurkyŽ periodically offers recipes and cooking tips at humanesociety.org/recipes. Turtle Island Foods will also be promoting this project at www.tofurky.com Facts
