Sexiest Vegetarians over 50

After more than 4,800 votes were tallied, 51-year-old Framingham resident Julian Winter and 70 year old Mimi Kiri are the winners of PETA's Sexiest Vegetarian Over 50 contest. They were featured on PETA's baby boomer-focused Web site, PETAprime.org, and received a Vegan Divine Organic Shining Star food basket, which includes sparkling apple cider, lime dark chocolate, cocoa Java almonds, organic caffe (herbal coffee), vanilla bean biscotti, and other gourmet vegan treats.

Winter says he started questioning eating meat following an incident that occurred when he was a young teen. "[T]he real epiphany for me was being somewhat forced to shoot a deer at age 13 as a rite of passage to adulthood," he says. "[The deer] didn't die immediately, and I watched [him] die. To this day, the memory disturbs me." That event--coupled with an incident in which Winter was accidentally shot by a hunter - helped lead to a day of reckoning for him. "Upon recovery, I told my father I'd no longer hunt animals, and when I turned legal age at 18, I became a vegetarian."

Mimi has been vegetarian since she was 30 and now follows a raw foods diet. Setting an example of good health and well-being, Mimi has convinced several family members and friends to go vegetarian over the years. When asked if she thinks it's sexy to be vegetarian, Mimi says, "Well, yes, it's sexy. To be 70 and still [wearing] a little jean miniskirt - you bet I feel sexy. Sexy at 70."

Congratulations to Julian and Mimi!
