Grammy Sammy and Mashupswww.RevolutionFoods.com Review by Cynthia Mosher With back-to-school on everyone's mind we thought it would be great to check out some snacks that are convenient and kid-friendly to feature for all our vegan parents looking for something appealing as well as "cool" to through into a lunch box. While we here at VegFamily will always think the best snack you can give a kid (or adult!) is a piece of fresh fruit or some nuts, we also know the cost of peer pressure and the value of offering something special to our kids to take to school. Revoluion Foods has a couple of offerings we think are "cool" and pretty darned good too. Jammy Sammy - These little sandwich-type bars are wheat-free and made with real fruit and/or organic non-GMO peanut butter. Each individually wrapped bar is packed with whole grains. Jammy Sammy is available in PB & Grape, PB & Strawberry, Blueberries & Oatmeal, and Apple Cinnamon & Oatmeal flavors for an average retail price of $3.99 for 5-single servings.
Mashups - Ever have you child bring home a bruised piece of fruit that he or she didn't eat because it was squished and didn't look good? Mashups are fruit you squeeze and eat right out of the pack. You can eat it right out of the pack or you can freeze it to make a cool fruit ice treat. No added sugar, no artificial ingredients or HFCS. Just delicious organic fruit ready for squeezing Mashups are available in Berry, Grape, Strawberry Banana, and Tropical for an average retail price of $4.99 for a pack of 4. Personally, I didn't care for the Mashups. It gave me the feeling of eating baby food. Older kids gave the same opinion. But our younger kids in the office/house loved it! Jammy Sammys get a double thumbs up from us. Everyone liked them but we also all agreed that they would be great as an occasional treat to throw in the lunch box or hand to our little ones on a busy day when we want to give them something good but we're slammed and can't pause to make something. Mashups? Also a double thumbs up. Why? Because it's so cool that it's "fruit you squeeze and eat" (even though we adults didn't care for it), because of the young kid appeal, and because it gives you a way to always have organic fruit on hand for snacking that has a great shelf and bookbag/lunchbox life.
