Why Did You Go Vegan?

Abigail

I ate meat until I was about 13 and then I decided to go veggie but for all the wrong reasons. I didn't think about it as stopping deaths of animals but instead as a way to stay trim and follow the trend. Article continues below

But around the time I turned 14 I made a whole bunch of new friends at highschool who were thinking about the politics about vegetarianism, and I started reading up on it. Now I have been vegan for about half a year and I have shifted my thinking to the cruelty being inflicted upon overbred animals.

It is amazing to me how people don't understand where I'm coming from. I try to talk about the cruelty-free way of thinking but people say "It's natural for people to eat animals. We're at the top of the food chain!" and then I try talking about how the land that is being used to raise animals for dairy and meat could be used for vegetables and fruits to feed many times more vegans than meat-eaters. But people say "nobody likes vegetables. Vegan food tastes like cardboard!"

Anyways I could never imagine going back to eating meat or dairy knowing where it comes from, and I don't know how anybody could. So that is my story!
