Why Did You Go Vegan?ChristineI read the other stories about becoming a vegan and I had a feeling that there isn't always a distinction in the stories between vegetarianism and veganism, however they are very different. Vegans not only eat no meat, but no dairy and no animal products whatsoever, including honey!Article continues below We are in the course of becoming vegans, too, but it's a slow and difficult process. Anywhere you go - restaurants, friends, family - you will be served something that will contain dairy. Also it is hard to give up eggs completely, but we would like to do it. In the past year we cut back on dairy significantly and one of the great results of it was that my asthma sufferer son did not have one single seizure this past year! So it is working. We eat eggs once a week, and only organic. I'm sure vegan it's the way to go, but I think, we won't be able to reach a 100% veganism. Maybe 80-90. Meaning that if we go to my parents in law to visit, and they serve us some cookies we won't be able to refuse them just because they used milk or butter in the cooking process. Also I don't think we could completely give up honey... I can't imagine the bees going through tremendous suffering when their honeycombs are taken away from them, but I might be wrong and ignorant. If you think so, please convince me! Read more stories If you found the information in this article helpful, please share it with others. |
