Why Did You Go Vegan?JosephI'm 34 years old and I've been vegan for about 4 years. I didn't have any desire to become a vegan and, in fact, I ate meat with a zest I now seriously regret. But I had a friend who went vegan, right out from under me. I thought he was crazy. He started eating tofu all the time and everything had to be organic. He was driving me nuts. Going out to eat with him became a really big pain.Of course he discussed veganism with me a lot. I couldn't get him to shut up in fact. Finally I decided to read Diet For A New America, on his suggestion. It really opened my eyes. I am a generally open minded sort of individual. Once I read what I read... well... I just couldn't deny it any longer. I can't say I went vegan right then and there. I wish I did. It took me about 6 months to wean myself off of meat and dairy products. But, I'll tell ya, me and my friend sure got a lot closer. Now we're trying to convert others. So, if you've been trying to convince your friend and family to go vegan and are having trouble...know that it worked for at least one guy. Me. I'm a vegan now because my friend brought it to my attention. And he lived by example, which really helped.
