Why Did You Go Vegan?

I became vegetarian when I was 17 and was served horse for lunch in a foreign country. At that moment I knew that I couldn't keep picking and choosing which animals I would or wouldn't eat. I was vegetarian for 9 years when I met my future husband. He didn't know anything about vegetarianism and hadn't thought about the issues, but is a fairly tolerant and open-minded person. For 2 years he ate vegetarian at home and ate meat when we ate out. Then, he decided to go totally vegetarian. It was two months before...

Last year, after reading about the issues in a vegan cookbook we discussed it and decided to go vegan. Knowing that we were supporting the meat industry, knowing what a horrible life sheep and cows have, even in New Zealand where farming isn't as intensive as elsewhere, knowing the health benefits, knowing everything we couldn't ignore it any longer.

After 9 months of being vegan we are both much healthier. My husband no longer suffers from allergies - he used to be all sneezy and snuffly all the time and that was normal for him. I have more energy and am losing weight (after having a chronic illness for 3 years). We both feel so good emotionally and physically that we wonder if dairy products were clouding our brain all those years! How could we not have seen the truth for all those years?

We eat so much better than we ever have, and we cook the most amazing and delicious recipes! The variety of a vegan diet is astounding, I had always thought it would be limiting, but we eat more variety now than ever. Don't delay - go vegan today! Your body will love you for it.
