Why Did You Go Vegan?

I have been vegan for over 5 years, and I honestly don't even think about why anymore. It feels so normal to be vegan, that I can't imagine not being one. My reasons for becoming vegan were varied. I had been handed the "Why Vegan" pamphlet at our local health food store. For 3 years prior, I'd been "vegetarian" on and off, but it never seemed to stick. But the info made sense, and I was converted almost instantly.

It is a given that the meat industry is evil. Dead, rotting flesh is not meant for humans. But even worse is the dairy industry, who most ovo-lactos support. The dairy industry causes pain to cows, kills male calves, and destroys our planet and our bodies. And it is a powerful Washington lobby, who's reach is felt in every aspect of society. Schools are provided w/ pro-milk propaganda disguised as nutritional information. TV advertising is filled w/ Got Milk ads. Innercity youth are force fed milk as a part of free meal programs.

But while most people are conscious of the pain and suffering in the slaughterhouses, the dairy industry is able to hide their dirty deeds behind millions in advertising dollars, which prevent the media from being able to expose them for the murderers and liars they are. Milk is NOT a healthy food for humans.
