Why Did You Go Vegan?

Kristen

I was sitting in a restaurant one day, about 4 years ago, with a vegetarian friend of mine. She started pointing out that I was eating a dead animal and asked if I would be willing to kill the animal myself if I had to. I told her no.

She said, "Then why do you let someone else kill for you?" I didn't really have an answer for that. She kept on me and told me a lot of things and I finally started thinking seriously about becoming a vegetarian. I tried it and really liked it and felt better about myself. About 2 years ago I learned a lot more than I bargained for when I picked up a copy of Diet for a New America. I was sickened, disgusted and appalled. I decided to go vegan. It was really hard at first. But I stuck with it and am a happy committed vegan today. My friend is still a vegetarian and I keep telling her about how the animals are treated. Hopefully she'll come around one day soon.
