Why Did You Go Vegan?

Susan

The road to becoming a vegan to me was a three part journey. FIRST PART-About two years ago, I went on the PETA website just looking around and I read the story of the downed cow(a true story). After that, I would get really sick to my stomach when I ate meat. So, I decided to stop eating cows and pigs altogether. Cows because they are my favorite animals, and pigs because my mom liked them. I know that was stupid, all animals are innocent and deserved to live out their life free from harm and free to go where they want.

SECOND PART-Me and my brother where at my uncle's house. My uncle had two turkeys. My brother asked my uncle why one of the turkeys has a piece of flesh hanging from the bottom of his mouth. My uncle grabbed the turkey's wattle and yanked on it saying this is the male. My brother took a few steps closer to them. The male turkey stepped deliberately in front of the female turkey trying to protect her. I realized then and there that all animals have their own personality, more importantly they feel pain and happiness. I decided to stop eating all animals.

THIRD PART-I thought I was helping all of the animals by not eating meat, it helps but it doesn't help all of the animals. I found out more information and found out by eating dairy you are hurting the cows even if you don't eat them and are also contributing to the veal industry. I don't want to be a part of that. I have been a vegan for 1 year and a half. My mom is a vegan also. My husband and brother have cut back on eating meat. I don't force it on them, I feel it has to be in their hearts or they won't stay being a vegetarian.
